Anthro War Prologue by ~Raydis:iconRaydis:

Anthro War Prologue

The year: 2208, around 66 years since the start of the Mutagen wars, the bloodiest war to ever take place on Earth. Starting at 2142, it was sparked when a mutagenic virus (hence the name) spread into a worldwide pandemic. The virus in question was developed at the end of WWIII to bring a quick end to the conflict when everyone started pointing nukes at each other. When someone or something became infected, it would immediately fuse with their DNA and rapidly and randomly mutate it along with their body structure resulting in a hideous abomination without any reasoning, only acting on instinct and one ambition, to kill. When it was launched on its target, it did exactly as planned, over 1/3 of the Opposing force’s armed soldiers were infected and many more followed suit, effectively wiping themselves out, though one issue that had never been fully thought out immediately presented itself: Containment. The infection spread faster and farther than predicted and soon it was reaching non-target nations. The rest of the world was then faced with the task of trying to stop the outbreak but nothing seemed to work, even nuclear weapons, the very thing that was trying to be prevented from being used couldn’t stop them. This lead to the demand for more advanced weapon technology, soon weapons that had before only been concepts were making their way to the battlefield: plasma based weapons, independently powered exoskeletons and large-scale mechs were developed but they could only do so much and every casualty sustained was another addition to the mutagenic ranks. That’s when the military looked towards the scientific realm for possible solutions. Researchers from various organizations franticly work to try and develop a working vaccine but the virus’ random nature made it near impossible to develop such a cure. Though about halfway through the war a breakthrough was made, some of the soldiers and a few civilians along with various animals and organisms seemed to show a natural immunity or resistance to the virus. The only problem was the researchers at the time couldn’t pinpoint the exact origins of the immunities (it was later proved to be key genetics), the immunity in humans was more scarce than it was in animals, and there wasn’t enough soldiers with the immunity to turn the tide of the war in their favor. That’s when someone made the suggestion to try something that perhaps should have never been considered…..
It was suggested that the DNA of the immune humans and animals be spliced together and massed cloned with minor alterations for genetic diversity to form an army that would possibly end to war once and for all. The world’s remaining governments, running out of options and faced with the threat of extinction, agreed. The program was immediately implemented and soon the first soldiers, dubbed “Anthros” were mass produced. The thinking capacity of a human, the sharpened senses of whatever animal DNA was chosen, and the immunity of both sides all rolled into on packaged. But despite this they lacked one thing: individuality, not having names and never taught the proper means to communicate other than hand signals, grunts, and battle roars, only taught to never question the orders of their human counterparts, they were placed on the front lines and suffered heavy losses but they fought and with their assistance brought the end of the war. Then there was the period of peace, there were hundreds of anthros designed for war with no war to fight and the world’s now fully fused government wasn’t quit sure what to do with them. So the began to “dispose” of them in short order. But something happened that would change the course of history. Someone, its unknown who, began working with some of the anthros to try and teach them to speak, read and write but most importantly, to question. Soon these teaching spread and they started to view the world in a new light and wanted a proper place in that world. But the government wouldn’t hear of it and continued the mass genocide. Soon conflicts began to rise between the Humans and the Anthros to the point any possible negotiations were tossed aside and a full scale war was launched. And know we are at the modern day, one side fitting a mass genocide and establish a place for themselves, another that views this as a mass of bioweapons gone rouge. The year: 2205, the start of the Anthro War…
